Privacy and cookies
In short: this website sets no cookies, does not track you and shows no advertising. When you visit, only our host, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as your IP address (see Hosting).
Who is responsible
Gaspard Guillot, the publisher of Band by Band, is responsible for the personal data handled by this website, except the data our host, Cloudflare, handles on its own account (see Hosting). You can reach us at contact@counciltaxbyband.co.uk. See also About Band by Band.
No cookies
This website sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. The law requires a website to give you clear information and ask for your consent before it stores or reads information on your device, with a few exceptions, for example when this is strictly necessary for a service you asked for (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, Schedule A1). Because this website stores and reads nothing on your device, we do not ask for consent and you will not see a cookie banner.
No tracking and no advertising
The pages contain no software to count, follow or recognise visitors. There are no advertisements and no social media buttons. Everything you see, including the fonts, comes from this website itself: no part of the pages is loaded from another company.
Choosing a council
When you type the name of a council on the front page, the figures are looked up in your browser, from data files that come from this website. The name you type is not sent to us or to anyone else, and nothing is stored on your device. If you open an address that contains a council name (for example one ending in ?c=Cardiff), that address, like any web address, is sent to our host, Cloudflare. On the other pages, the council box at the top of the page takes you to the front page and sends the name you typed to our host as part of the page address; so does any council box if JavaScript is switched off in your browser.
We do not ask for your address or postcode. To look up the band of a home, you use the official services on GOV.UK or the Scottish Assessors website.
Hosting
The website is hosted by Cloudflare. On every visit, Cloudflare processes data about the traffic to the website, such as IP addresses, as described in its privacy policy. For some of this data Cloudflare acts on our behalf, as a processor; for the rest it is responsible itself. Cloudflare is an American company; its privacy policy says that when data is transferred to another country it puts in place appropriate safeguards, consistent with the laws of the country the data comes from.
If you email us
If you write to contact@counciltaxbyband.co.uk, we use your email address and your message only to reply to you. We do so on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering questions about the website (UK GDPR, Article 6(1)(f)). Your email first reaches Cloudflare Email Routing, a Cloudflare service that forwards incoming email to another address; it then arrives in the publisher's Gmail mailbox, a Google service. Google's privacy policy says it has servers around the world and that information may be processed outside the country where you live, with the same protections wherever it is processed. We keep your message no longer than needed to deal with your question, we use it for nothing else, and we never sell it.
We cannot deal with your council tax account: please do not send us your bill, your account number or details of your finances.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to ask for access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing and, where it applies, to data portability. To use any of these rights, email contact@counciltaxbyband.co.uk.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first at the address above. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Changes
If anything on this website changes in a way that affects your privacy, for example if advertising is added, we will update this page before the change takes effect.
