About Greenwich’s figures

Greenwich is among the cheaper places in England for a Band D home. The 2026/27 charge is £2,107.86, and only 13 English councils ask for less. Within the capital the borough comes 22nd of the 32 boroughs, almost level with the simple London average of £2,113.85. Last year's figure was £2,011.81, so the bill has risen by £96.05, or 4.8%.

Police and fire are not separate lines on a London bill. Both sit inside the Greater London Authority precept, which is £510.51 in every borough and makes up 24.2% of Greenwich's Band D. The remaining £1,597.35 is set by the borough itself, and nothing is added for parishes.

The valuation list for Greenwich holds 126,980 homes, and Band C is clearly the biggest group: 46,280, or 36.4%. Band D follows at 21.8% and Band B at 17.7%, while the three top bands, F to H, account for 6,700 homes. A Band C property is charged £1,873.65 in 2026/27, and the 22,480 Band B homes pay £1,639.45; the far rarer Band H costs £4,215.72.

One line of the borough's return to government stands out. It plans on collecting 94.25% of the tax due, a rate that just 2 English councils undercut. Greenwich's tax base, stated in Band D equivalents, is 92,060.
