About Dudley’s figures
Dudley charges an average Band D of £2,144.84 for 2026/27, 278th of 296 in England and £266.13 below the simple average. Since 2025/26, when it stood at £2,038.57, it has gone up by £106.27, or 5.2%.
Its police precept (£244.50) and fire precept (£85.19) are the same as those of Birmingham, Coventry, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton. The gap with those places therefore comes from the council element: Dudley Council asks £1,815.15, against £2,209.30 in Wolverhampton and £2,297.79 in Walsall. Because none of the three has parishes, a Band D home in Dudley pays £482.64 less than one in Walsall and £394.15 less than one in Wolverhampton. Dudley's own element amounts to 84.6% of its Band D.
Dudley's housing is split mainly between the first three bands: 43,660 properties in A, 40,420 in B and 31,270 in C, from a total of 142,700, with D at 16,470, or 11.5% of the list. A Band A home pays £1,429.89 on average, a Band B home £1,668.21 and a Band C home £1,906.52.
Unlike Walsall or Wolverhampton, where Band A alone covers close to half of all homes or more, Dudley has almost as many in Band B as in Band A. Within that group of seven, no council has a lower Band D than Dudley. Its tax base equals 98,517.83 Band D homes, and the council is planning on 98.5% collection.
Band D is the band the national tables use to compare councils. In Dudley it is £2,144.84 a year. Across the 296 councils in England the simple average of Band D is £2,410.97, and 18 of them charge less than Dudley.
The dearest Band D in England is Dorset at £2,765.02; the cheapest is Wandsworth at £1,028.21.
