About Doncaster’s figures

Doncaster's average Band D went up by £57.25 for 2026/27, to £2,167.75. At 2.7%, that increase is one of the smallest in England: just four of the 296 council areas recorded a lower percentage rise, while the simple average across English councils was 4.8%. A year earlier Band D stood at £2,110.50.

Parishes are a feature of the borough. Table 10 counts 43 parishes here, 40 of them setting a precept, and those precepts, averaged over the borough, come to £42.80 at Band D, around 2% of the total; an individual household's parish charge can sit above or below it. The council itself takes £1,749.86, or 80.7%, while £280.04 goes to policing and £95.05 to fire, amounts shared with Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield.

With Band D £243.22 under the English simple average, Doncaster ranks 275th. Band A dominates its housing: 83,010 of 145,790 properties, 57%, at an average bill of £1,445.17. Just 14 English councils exceed Doncaster's proportion of Band A homes. Band B comes next with 27,500, billed £1,686.03 on average, and Band D holds 10,380.

So a typical Doncaster household pays a Band A bill well under the Band D average, in an area whose Band D is already among the lower ones in England. Within that group of four, Doncaster has the lowest Band D; Sheffield, at £2,510.16, has the highest. Collection is budgeted at 99%.
