About Camden’s figures
Camden's homes sit higher up the band scale than in most of England. Bands E to H account for 44.7% of its 114,310 properties, a proportion exceeded in just 19 councils. Band H alone holds 4,940 homes, 4.3%, and only three councils have a larger share in that top band. Band G, at 13,160 homes, even edges out Band F at 13,060. Band A, by contrast, has only 3,360 homes (2.9%), while Band D, at 26,690 or 23.3%, is the single largest band.
Against that stock, Camden's Band D of £2,207.55 for 2026/27 is low: only 27 English councils charge less. The figure rose £100.86, or 4.79%.
Two bodies share it. The council keeps £1,697.04 and the GLA takes £510.51, or 23.1%; in London that GLA precept carries the Metropolitan Police's and the fire service's costs, which is why neither shows as its own line. Camden has no parishes. Among the 32 councils with that same GLA charge, Camden is 14th from the dearest.
Since Band H is twice Band D in every English council in the table, a Band H home in Camden is billed £4,415.10 for the year. Of the council's Band D share, £32.32 is the adult social care precept added this year.
Camden is one of 15 English councils where Band H homes outnumber Band A homes, the reverse of the order seen in 279 of the 295 English councils with published counts, where Band A holds more homes than Band H.
Band D is the band the national tables use to compare councils. In Camden it is £2,207.55 a year. Across the 296 councils in England the simple average of Band D is £2,410.97, and 27 of them charge less than Camden.
The dearest Band D in England is Dorset at £2,765.02; the cheapest is Wandsworth at £1,028.21.
